Munich. Fruchtimport vanWylick GmbH officially inaugurated its new branch in Olching near Munich on 5 November 2016 as part of an “open day” for employees and their families.
The ripening and distribution centre comprising a commercial floor space and order-picking area of approx. 7,000 m² is situated in a logistically favourable location on the A8 motorway in the Olching industrial estate near Munich. At its heart stands a banana ripening factory with a capacity of over 27,000 boxes per week. The plant has been designed and installed together with our partner Fyffes. The technology is used worldwide and involves a careful ripening process, which, for instance, enhances shelf life and fruit quality. Special ripening chambers are also in place to meet the growing demand for exotic fruit.
The building has been constructed to the latest energy standards with a large-scale photovoltaic system covering its entire roof. The warehouse is fully air-conditioned and the products are stored, packed and picked in different climate zones. There are also four individual refrigerated rooms with high-bay storage, air humidifiers and ethylene absorbers capable of accommodating 1,000 euro pallets.
Commercial Director Jens Allerding says, “we are pleased to be able to meet the expectations of our customers in terms of quality, efficiency and sustainability at our new location. This is the first step in our plan to bring all of our distribution and ripening centres up to the latest standards”. Regional manager Franz Däubler is also happy that, “we succeeded in implementing our project plan on schedule thanks to the positive working relationship with all the partners involved in the construction. A special thanks is due to our staff, who have been fully committed to the project. I am also delighted that practically the entire team has relocated with us and are clearly enjoying working in these new, modern surroundings”.
Fruchtimport vanWylick GmbH is a leading importer; distributor and service provider for the fruit and vegetable sector in Germany and neighbouring countries. Approximately 400 employees generate a turnover of 275 million euros. The company operates eight distribution and ripening centres. Its main business areas comprise the ripening of bananas and other produce, the import and distribution of grapes, citrus and stone fruits and niche products, as well as services and distribution related to the fruit and vegetable sector.
